MAROS, INDONESIA — The Maros Branch Scout Council (Kwartir Cabang/Kwarcab Maros) organized a series of educational and inspirational activities during the Jamboree on the Air (JOTA) and Jamboree on the Internet (JOTI) on October 16–18, 2026. The program featured journalism and reporting training, amateur radio communication, and a special Meet the Figure session focusing on leadership and service within Scout youth councils.
The journalism and reporting training took place on Friday evening, October 16, at the Maros Scout Council grounds. It was attended by 60 participants, comprising 30 boys and 30 girls representing 13 Scout branches across Maros Regency.
During the session, Kak Jumadi delivered material on journalism and reporting, introducing participants to the fundamentals of news writing, information accuracy, and the process of transforming facts into informative and accessible news stories.
Participants also learned that journalism involves more than writing. It requires observation, verification, and a commitment to communicating information responsibly.
“Journalism is how Scouts capture the world through the power of the pen,” was one of the key messages conveyed during the training. The session aimed to strengthen participants’ literacy skills and encourage them to become responsible reporters of positive activities within the Scout movement.
The Chair of the Maros Branch Scout Council, A. Muetazim Mansyur, expressed his support for the program. He hopes that journalism training and communication skills development can be expanded to Scout groups at the school and community levels, helping prepare Generation Z with stronger knowledge and practical skills.
He emphasized that communication and literacy are important components in developing Scouts who are active, creative, and capable of adapting to technological and social changes.
ORARI INTRODUCES SCOUTS TO AMATEUR RADIO COMMUNICATION
In addition to journalism training, the JOTA-JOTI program featured an introduction to amateur radio, delivered by H. Hajar Sas, callsign YB8HZ, who was responsible for the JOTA activities representing the Indonesian Amateur Radio Organization (Organisasi Amatir Radio Indonesia/ORARI).
Participants learned about amateur radio equipment and proper communication procedures for radio transmissions.
H. Hajar Sas explained that the collaboration between ORARI and the Maros Scout movement was taking place for the fourth time. He welcomed the partnership and expressed ORARI’s readiness to continue working with the Maros Scout Council in future activities.
“We warmly welcome this collaboration. Going forward, we are ready to continue partnering with the Maros Scout movement,” he said.
The partnership is expected to broaden participants’ understanding of communication technology while developing effective, disciplined, and appropriate radio communication skills.
MEET THE FIGURE: INSPIRING SENIOR AND ROVER SCOUTS TO BECOME LEADERS
The JOTA-JOTI program continued on Saturday evening, October 17, with a Meet the Figure session at the Maros Scout Council grounds. The event brought together representatives from 13 Scout branches across Maros Regency.
The session featured Kak Andi Muh. Pratama Rizky Rewata, who presented the theme “From Senior and Rover Scouts to Change-Makers: Understanding Roles, Leadership, and Service in Scout Youth Councils.”
His presentation encouraged Senior Scouts and Rover Scouts to understand their roles in developing leadership, strengthening teamwork, and contributing to the advancement of the Scout movement through Scout youth councils, known as Dewan Kerja.
Participants were encouraged to go beyond simply attending activities and become individuals who take initiative, set positive examples, and make meaningful contributions to their communities.
Through the combination of journalism training, amateur radio communication, and leadership discussions, the Maros JOTA-JOTI program provided a learning environment for young people to develop communication, literacy, creativity, and leadership skills.
The program is expected to nurture a generation of Scouts who are not only capable of organizing activities and using technology but also committed to responsible information sharing and positive community service.
From the written word to radio waves, from participants to leaders, Maros Scouts are encouraged to keep learning, creating, and making a difference in the lives of others.
